Application: Power Plant Demineralized Make Up Water System


Units Involved: Dual-train demineralizer systems of 6000 m3/day (1,600,000 gpd) capacity each. Raw water 400 mg/l as caco3, final product purity of 4 megohms resistivity (0.25 micromhos specific conductance).

Each train includes:

  • two activated carbon filters (11'00" dia. X 8'0" SSH)
  • one weak acid cation exchanger (size 11'0" dia. X 9'0" SSH) regenerated co-currently
  • one strong acid cation exchanger (size 11'0" dia. X 14'6" SSH) regenerated counter- currently
  • one forced-draft degasifier
  • one weak base anion exchanger (size 12'0" dia. X 13'6" ss) regenerated co-currently
  • one strong base anion exchanger (size 11'0" dia. By 12'6" ss) regenerated counter-currently and
  • one mixed-bed exchanger (size 7'6" dia. By 10'6" ss).

The two demineralizer trains run independently or in parallel, but share the same control system and chemical regeneration package.

An Allen Bradley PLC-5 with semi- graphic display controls the demineralizer operation.

The engineer of record is “CTCI Corporation” in Taipei – Taiwan ROC
